Springfield Promise provides opportunities and connections for schools, neighbors, parents and children that they most likely would not otherwise receive. The children who participate in Promise programs grow academically and socially. In 2023, 507 Pre-K through 8th grade students participated in Promise literacy instruction, service learning, leadership, alcohol and drug prevention, and entrepreneurship programs while 63% of students working with PromiseCorps members made more than one year’s growth in reading skills.
Community Health Foundation’s HEAL (healthy eating, active living) grant supported the Promise Community Visioning Garden expansion to provide additional garden beds and to recruit more neighbors to grow gardens. The community gardeners grew more than 1800 pounds of produce while 18 children attended the first summer garden camp to learn about and experience gardening and to become excited to eat healthy foods.
