The in-school program ROX gives girls the tools they need to set boundaries, deal with coercion, communicate assertively, stand up for themselves and recognize their value comes from who they are, not how they look. The evidence-based program includes modules on self-defense, healthy relationships, coping with stress and pressure, a healthy body image and career development and leadership skills among other topics.
Community Health Foundation helps support the ROX program offered in middle schools in Clark County. The coach at Northeastern Middle School shared her thoughts on the program, “ROX gives girls room to be comfortable with themselves and one another; to feel seen and heard and the realization that each of them deserve this. I loved practicing assertive responses and seeing them become more at ease with this process. Face to face communication is something that so many teens (and adults) just don’t do, so making time to develop these skills is beneficial.”
