Birthing and Post Delivery / Nutrition / Food Assistance: WIC is the nation’s most successful and cost-effective public health nutrition program.  We provide wholesome food, nutrition education, and community support for income-eligible women who are pregnant or postpartum, infants, and children up to five years old.  We offer support to anyone-working or not-who cares for a child including:  moms, single fathers, grandparents, foster parents, step-parents, and guardians.  WIC serves eligible families at or below 185% of the federal poverty guidelines.  To get WIC assistance, participants:  should be pregnant or have infants or children under 5 years old, may be in need of income assistance, and can be receiving other benefits like foster care, medical assistance, or SNAP.  WIC services address WIC's most important goal:  prevention of nutrition-related health problems.  WIC promotes breastfeeding for WIC and non-WIC mothers through infant feeding information, support from trained peer helpers, referrals to lactation consultants if needed, and breast pumps to eligible mothers.
