Health Screenings / Heart Disease - Early Detection: Registered nurse available each Wednesday morning for blood pressure checks for persons 60 years or older. Other health screenings are held at various times throughout the year. Please watch for announcements in the USS CenterPage newsletter or call for more information.
Exercise and Fitness: Provides arthritis exercise, tap dancing, stretch and strengthen, Keep Movin', Keep Dancin', Focus on Fitness, Zumba, Yoga, Tai Chi, Chair Volleyball, Pickle Ball, Hula Fridays, cycling club (changing gears). Must be a member to participate in classes. May be an additional charge. Call for days and times of specific classes.
Fitness and Mobility - Senior Living: A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns About Falls is a program designed to reduce the fear of falling and increase activity levels among older adults. A Matter of Balance includes eight two-hour sessions for a small group led by a trained facilitator. During the class, participants learn to view falls as controllable, set goals for increasing activity, make changes to reduce fall risk at home and exercise to increase strength and balance.
Education and Training: Provides computer training to members age 55 and over. Computer room is open daily. A 6 hour Basic Computer class is offered periodically. Individual instruction is available by appointment for specific programs such as Word and Excel and on handling web sites and email. Walk-Ins for quick help are welcome Fridays
from 10 am to noon.
Transportation: Provides transportation for necessary appointments Monday through Friday throughout Clark County. This includes dialysis and chemotherapy. Transportation is available 6am to 6pm for medical appointments. To make an appointment please call United Senior Services at 323-4948 and ask for transportation. A two week notice is appreciated for in town appointments. Four weeks notice is appreciated for doctor appointments out of town. Transportation for banking appointments and grocery runs are also available in the same manner.
Support Groups and Social Services: Congregate and home delivered meals; transportation for medical appointments, grocery and essential errands; benefits assistance
service; recreation programs including bingo, art/exercise/dance, gardening, book group, classes, piano, cards, potlucks, trips and tours. Offers support group for people with Parkinson’s, which meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month. USS also offers exercise classes for the group.
Medicare: United Senior Services is a certified site for the Ohio Department of Insurance Senior Health Insurance Information Program (OSHIIP). Information is provided regarding Medicare, Medicaid, supplemental insurance policies, prescription assistance including enrolling in Medicare Part D and accessing additional drug benefits. Assists with obtaining a health care power of attorney and living will; handles Medicare appeals and provides help understanding medical bills and benefits. Counseling for HMOs, long-term care and cancer policies and help with insurance comparisons. In-home service available for homebound individuals.
Diabetes - Education and Prevention: Offers Healthy U, an evidence-based program for chronic disease and diabetes offered in partnership with the Area Agency on Aging.
