February is Children’s Dental Health Month and to encourage better dental health for local children, Community Health Foundation is providing a toothbrush and toothpaste to all kindergarten and first grade students in Clark County. Teachers also have access to a free dental health curriculum which is age appropriate for their students.
Middle and high school students were invited to create a short video or poster promoting good oral health to help educate and motivate the younger students to keep their teeth healthy. The winning creators receive Amazon gift cards.
Students from Northwestern High School helped put some of the 3,500 dental kits together and volunteers from Leadership Clark County helped deliver the kits to the elementary schools.
In addition to CHF, dental supplies were provided by Springfield Gentle Dental, Springfield Pediatric Dentistry, North Spring Dental, Delta Dental Foundation and the American Dental Association.
In the fall, Cedarville University Nursing students visited seven schools for an oral health education presentation and distributed the dental kits to those students.
