Give Kids A Smile

On Friday, July 14th, Clark County held its first ever Give Kids A Smile event at Lincoln Elementary School. A unique collaboration among the Mad River Dental Society, Lincoln Promise Neighborhood, Springfield City Schools and Community Health Foundation brought an opportunity to promote good oral health to kids and their families. Information about fluoride and proper brushing was distributed and children had a chance to have their teeth examined and fluoride applied. Three dentists and ten dental staff volunteered their time, and all supplies were donated by various sources. Springfield News-Sun covered the event and plans to run an article the week of July 17.

This event was limited to Lincoln Promise families and was a great way to pilot the program in our community. Volunteers agreed that they would like to provide GKAS again next year and make it even more successful. Community Health Foundation will work with members of the Oral Health coalition to plan the 2018 Give Kids A Smile event.
